“We’ve arranged a society on science and technology in which nobody understands anything about science and technology, and this combustible mixture of ignorance and power sooner or later is going to blow up in our faces. I mean, who is running the science and technology in a democracy if the people don’t know anything about it?” – Carl Sagan
Welcome to betterthinkers, a writing space by Jamie House, MEd, MSc. I am an experienced K-12 educator (mainly elementary school) with a background in analytic philosophy. With betterthinkers I aim to identify and promote conditions that foster critical thinking, effective communication, and epistemic resilience; essentials for a individuals in and for a thriving society.
My Mission
I aim to explore the concept of resilience in our knowledge systems and uphold individual integrity, preserving humanity in our rapidly changing world. I write about ideas that promote a human-centered society where individuals and communities are academically, ethically, and philosophically enlightened.
My Approach
I post in three sections: PRACTICE, OPINION , and THEORY & PHILOSOPHY
While I write sometimes with an academic audience in mind, my primary goal is to engage the general public, education stakeholders, and industry experts through my PRACTICE and OPINION posts. In THEORY & PHILOSOPHY posts, my approach, rooted in analytical philosophy, dives into areas of social epistemology, normative ethics, and philosophy of science. This helps me address structural challenges in knowledge acquisition and preservation through conceptual analysis.
Writing is my personal journey to develop and share ideas, enriched by community interaction. Join me in this collaborative effort to encourage a society grounded in critical thinking, ethical understanding, and epistemic resilience.
